Numi Tea is a 20-year-old company started by a brother and sister team. Based in Oakland, CA, they sell their organic tea products in all the major grocery store chains, an online store and Amazon.

My Role: Designer/Web Development Lead (Contractor)

Problem
Numi Tea had recently executed a brand refresh of its product packaging. They needed their online shop, brand website, and blog to match the new brand design. Built on WordPress, the brand and blog sites where heavily customized by a string of former developers.

Goal
First, create new on-brand designs for the three sites, remove the old brand custom coding, and recode the brand and blog sites to match the new brand standards while working in partnership with the online store developers to provide guidance and artwork assets. Second, provide a templatized system for Numi tea to finish the build-out of the brand website’s remaining pages.

Process
The project started with re-skin designs for the online shop. I collaborated with stakeholders at GSD Partners and Numi Tea to present, iterate, and finalize the online store’s designs.

The next step was to deliver the coded header and footer that would be the roadmap for the online store developers to emulate. During this step, I took on the additional responsibility of the developer role delivering the required HTML and CSS code for the header and footer.

The final step included the design and coding for Numi Tea brand and blog websites. Additional designs were created for the home page, product section, and templates for two types of content pages. This process included working with the stakeholders through design iterations and weekly reviews of the coded website.

Deliverables
—Delivered the re-skin design and code for the brand and blog websites based on the newly established Numi Tea brand standard.
—Delivered the required designs, code and artwork assets to update the online store.
—Delivered a templatized system with accompanying documentation that allows Numi Tea to update the content and to build out the brand website’s remaining pages.
